WRESTLING

POLICE STOP CONTEST.

[BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.]

SYDNEY, August 11

In a professional wrestling match at the Sydney Stadium before 10,000 people this evening, between Billy Edwards (13st.) and Ted Thye (13.8) some exciting times were experienced by ring-siders, and on one occasion by the Press reporters, through the contestants hurling and throwing each other about the ring. They resorted to kicking, punching and biting, and Edwards who was the worse offender, was cautioned by the referee on the more numerous occasions. The contest came to a sudden ending in the early stages of the sixth round, when the police intervened and stopped it. At this stage no fall had been gained by either wrestler, and no decision was given to-night. At this announcement, the large crowd who paid for admission, were in an upheaval. They did not favour tiiis unexpected ending. They hooted and howled, and two different sections of the crowd, consecutively counted the police out for intruding and stopping the contest.
