FLOOD AT THAMES

HEAVY RAIN CAUSES DAMAGE.

THAMES, July 7.

Rain fell solidly all Saturday night and Sunday, culminating in a cloud burst about 2 p.m., when over three inches of rain fell. The tw’o streams, Hape and Karaka, burst their banks, and flood w r aters streamed through the town, invading residences, some of which had a foot of water over the floors. Fortunately, high tide being at 3.20. the water was not banked up for long, but left a heavy mud deposit everywhere.

In the country, the Kirikiri stream overflowed the main road doing considerable damage.

A large slip is reported on the Taupo-Coroglen road. One tunnel of the Borough waterrace collapsed, carrying away about half a chain of fluming. Water power users will be unable to run till this is repaired.
