The Auckland-owned gelding Pata-

dawn, who has been trained by P. Riddle at Randwick, has been sent to Victoria to enter V. O'Neill’s stables at Caulfield. Red Sea: A trip to Melbourne is being considered for Red Sea, the idea being that she will be better suited by the 6.7 minimum in Victoria during the winter months than by the 9.0 upward scale in New Zealand. If she goes across, L. J. Ellis is likely to accompany her.

Hipo an Acceptor: It was stated that Hipo was to be retired from the turf, but he has been accepted for at th© Egmont-Wanganui Hunt meeting which opens on Wednesday. Good Recovery:

Sir Archie has mad© a good recovery from the injuries he received when he fell in the Penros Hurdles on the first day of the Northern meting. Excpt for a slight swelling on th© neck he shows no further signs of the accident.

Remits for Conference: The Taranaki district clubs will ask the Racing Conference to pass a remit to increase apprentice allowances from 51b. and 31b. to 101 b. and 51b. Under the present rules, when there i 9 a shortage of jockeys for highweight handicaps designed to provide mounts for hurdle and steeplechase jockeys, a stipendiary steward has power; tqj allow any c(thcH licensed jockey to ride on condition that a penalty of 71b. is carried. The Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club desires to confine such races to genuine jumping rideis.

Is Well: Maori Boy ha.s trained on splendidly since the January meeting, and has never looked better than at pi esent. He is a proved weight-carrier and goes well in heavy ground, . and racing under the present conditions he will have a lot in his favour.

Tom Tiddler’s Ground: New Zealand owners have found Australia a profitable hunting-giound. Since 1914-15 they have won in stakes in Australia a little more than £220,000. Mr. Greenwood, the owner of Gloaming and other horses, won £47,539 of that sum, and Mr. H. A. Knight, the owner of Limerick, won £45,552.
