HOCKEY
In readiness for their match with Hokitika in the Cup final on Wednesday next, the Mawhera. team yesterday, had a good work out opposed to a team of male hockey enthusiasts at the Park. After a strenuous game lasting an hour and a-half, the girls won by three goals to two. J. Holder played a. splendid game for the Mawhera team but was well marked by Herbie Leach who was the mainstay of the opposition team. Phil McDonald was prominent in the forward line of the men, but the wind spent in talking might have been better applied in assisting his side. Goals were scored by Misses Sands, McGrath and Furness and for the losers by P. McDonald and J. O’Connor. Mr McGrath had the whistle.. A return match is being played on Sunday when the girls hope to repeat yesterday’s performance. LEAGUE FOOTBALL. Brunner seniors to play Blackball on Sunday at Blackball at 2.45 p.m.— Davidson, O'Connor. Cut bush, Ryan.. McCarthy, Bernard, O’Connell, Hunt, Ross, Dunn, Ellery, Hatton, Wilson, ami Smith.
