DEPARTMENT’S ENQUIRIES. [special to “star.”] AUCKLAND, June 19. “I don’t know how we are going to furnish these particulars,” said the Chairman of the Auckland Education Board (Mr A. Burns) when the Board ' was considering a request of the Education Department for information as 'to the number of married women teachers in its employ, whose husbands were employed in schools, or in private employment. “It is not a nice question to ask married teachers in 'our service,” added Mr Burns. “If I were a lady, I would refuse to answer the question.” 1 Mr W. J. Campbell: We can try it. I think it is a step in the right direction. Mrs V. Donaldson wanted to know lin which category a farmer would be placed. A member: That is a business. Mr E. C. Banks: It is a bad business. It was agreed to endeavour to supply the required information to the 'Department.
