The Westland Football Association met last evening. Mr Brailsford presiding, others present being Messrs Robertson, Glen, Flood and Airey (lion. secretary). Mr Hunt wrote apologising for not being able to referee at Cobden. He also reported refereeing the game at Dobson v. Greymouth. Rewanui Football Club wrote claiming points in third grade match, when Cobden third grade failed to put in an appearance. The Centre decided to allot the points to Rewanui. Blackball Football Club wrote drawing the attention of the Centre to the effect that some third grade players were playing who were over age.— Decided that the third grade committee investigate this charge. Blackball also wrote asking that referees’ out-of pocket expenses be paid. —lt was decided to reply that the present rule must stand.
A generous donor promised 11 medals for the third grade tournament. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to this gentleman. A gold medal was also donated by an expresident for what (he Centre considered to be the best cause.
In connection with the proposed match with Canterbury on August 9, it was decided to get in touch with Canterbury, outlining the Railway Department’s attitude and also asking what they are prepared to do in the matter of financing the trip. It was decided to play Buller on July 19 for the Peter Dawson Cup. A motion was carried that a sole selector be appointed for the West-land-Buller match. Mr J. Sharpe was nominated for this position. Fixtures for Saturday, June 21: — Rewanui v. Taylorville, at Dunollie; D. Barnes, referee. Dobson v. Blackball, at Dobson; R. Hunt, referee. Cobden v. Greymouth, at Cobden; A. Campbell, referee. Kick off at 2.45.
Third Grade fixtures:—Cobden v. Grey at Cobden; G. Graham, referee. Dobson v. Marist, at Dobson; A. McAnulty, referee. Kick off 1.15.
SCHOOL MATCHES. A senior primary match was staged at the Recreation Ground between State and Marist. Both sides attacked with vim, Marist, if anything, combining better. Brown, Heaphy, O’Leary and McDonnell were always alert, and from a good passing movement Heaphy put through. Play see-sawed for a time, Kibble, Sheen, Larsen and Sharp getting away on numerous occasions, but Grogan and Mcßrearty were very sure. Good wing play by O’Leary and McDonnell gained much ground, and a long shot from O’Leary found Hignett out of position. On changing over, Sharp and Kibble, by consistent following up, found a gap and Shat]) made no mistake. Roberts, at half for State, played a nice game and defended splendidly. Marist won by two goals to one. Mr. Williams and Bro. Austen refereed . Junior Primary: Marist and. State played their second match, but the former combined too well for State. IVlulqueen (2) were outstanding, an<«, with Rose, played a bustling game- that brought them in three goals. Their passing was pretty to watch, and several shots were very close. Parsonage, Roberts and Hamilton were the best of tho State boys. Mr. Williams and Bro. Cuthbert refereed. . Matches for Saturday are: Seniors. Blackball v. State, at Blackball; Taylorville v. Marist, at .Taylorville. Juniors: Marist v. Cobden, at GreyWinners of the Knock-out Cups are. Blackball (senior), Cobden (junior).
N.Z. COUNCIL DECISIONS. WELLINGTON, June 16. At a. meeting of the Now Zealand Football Association Council, to-night, a letter from the Auckland Association was read suggesting that the date for playing the challenge match with Wellington for the F.A. trophy should be August. 16. It would be difficult to arrange any earlier date owing to Chatham Cup and other fixtures. ? , The Council decided to. telegrapn to the Auckland Association stating that the game should be played not later than July 5 or 12. . All associations are to be informed that unless dues are paid by July 1, the Council will take steps to deal with them.
