REEFTON, June 14.

Private advice was received at Reefton yesterday of the death at Dunedin of Miss H. L. Galloway, after a long and painful illness. Deceased lady was a sister of the late Mrs. Geo. B. Shepherd and for a period conducted a private school later joining the staff of the District Hight School as Infant Mistress, eventually retiring on superannuation. Of late years she has resided in Dunedin. Misses M. and N. Shepherd of Buller Road are nieces of deceased.

The Golden Coast Dairy Factory are paying their suppliers 1/1 per lb. for butterfat for the current month.

On Tuesday last at the Magistrate’s Court, Christchurch, Harold Henry Williams was charged with the theft at Reefton on March 28, of goods valued at £6/5/-, the property of John W. Powley, and also of goods valued at £lO/10/- the property of Joseph Whear of Alexander Reefs and of goods valued at 10/-, the property of Alfred Davies. Accused pleaded guilty to all three charges. Chief Detective Carroll, in giving evidence, stated that accused had been convicted for theft at Greymouth. On the above charges he was convicted and discharged and the goods were ordered to be returned to the owners. The above charges are the outcome of a series of thefts of clothing preferred against accused.
