OPERA HOUSE TO-NIGHT

“Vengeance,” the 100 per cent, all talking drama of the Congo, will he screened to-night, also a splendid programme of short talkies, Sound News, and the sensational Melbourne Cup talkie. TOWN HALL, TO-NIGHT. Romance of gold and its transporta tion, the thrill of the early day mines, the men and the story of the stage coaches that fed the steady stream of the precious yellow metal to a troubled young republic is the theme of “The California Mail,” the latest Ken Maynard western feature, to be screened at the Town Hall to-night Alice White in “Hot Stuff” will be presented at Sunday night’s picture benefit.

OPERA HOUSE MONDAY.

A farcical comedy set against the most lavish backgrounds Hollywood, has ever created, is promised when “No No, Nanette,” the new First National all-talking, singing, dancing and laughing production to be presented at the Opera. House for four nights and matinee, commencing Monday next. The story is an adaptation of the famous stage success of the same name. A big featured cast appears, headed by Bernice Claire and Alexander Gray. Lucien Littlefield, Bert Roach, Mildred Harris, Jocelyn Lee and Zasu Pitts are some of the other well-known players. “No No Nanette” is the story of a kind-hearted old millionaire who can’t make his thrifty wife help him spend his money. When he turns to a pair of young gold diggers for assistance he gets himself into a lot of comical troubles. The backgrounds and settings are said to be magnificent. Four big scenes, representing Holland, New York, Japan and Mars, ail filmed in technicolour, are described as the high moments of the picture. Hundreds of people take part in these multi-coloured sequences in whirling and sparkling dances. There will also be a splendid supporting programme of short talkies and Sound News. MAWHERA DANCE. The Flying Balloon will be a big attraction at the Mawhera Hockey Dance to be held in the Oddfellows’ Hall to-night. A special prize will be awarded the winner of this huge attraction. Steel’s orchestra will supply the music.
