Mr J. R. Jones (Ikamatua) left today for Christchurch on holiday.

Mr D. Kaye left this morning for Christchurch.

Mr. H. H. Sharpe, of the Public Works Department was a passenger to Christchurch this morning.

In regard to the motion passed at a congregational meeting of St. John’s Presbyterian Church extending a call to Rev. J. W. McKenzie, of Port Chalmers, a telegram has been received by the Interim Moderator, Rev. J. Hayward, stating that Mr. McKenzie was unable to accept.

Bishop Brodie will arrive in Greymouth by this afternoon’s express, and will administer Confirmation at St. Patrick’s Church to-morrow afternoon, and also in the Sacred Heart Church, Runanga. On Monday evening he will be tendered a reception by the parishioners in the St. Columba Hall.

The death occurred" on Thursday at her home in Bealey Avenue, Christchurch, of Mrs Bridget Anne O’Brien, widow of Mr Michael O’Brien, formerly one of the best known manufacturers and business men of Christchurch. Mrs O’Brien was born in County Clare, Ireland, in 1844. As a young woman she came to Melbourne, where she was married in 1868 to Mr O’Brien, who had arrived in Australia from Ireland in 1861. Immediately after their marriage Mr and Mrs O’Brien left for New Zealand, settling in Greymouth, where they remained for sixteen years. In 1884 the family moved to Christchurch.
