BANDITS SEIZE MISSIONARIES [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] (Recd. March 31, 10.30 a.m.) SHANGHAI, March 30. The same bandit gang which captured and murdered three Finnish woman missionaries recently, is reported to have captured three others at Yuatchow, West Kiangsi. The local offices of the China Inland Association are in receipt of a message stating that brigands descended on the town and carried off Mr. and Mrs. Porteous (British) and Miss Negemmell (American). Two other women and a man managed to escape. The fate of the captives is unknown but grave fears are entertained in view of the bandits’ previous history. 1 A REBEL SUCCESS SHANGHAI, March 30. Latest Pekin reports state that the rebels are advancing southward and have captured Kaifeng, capital of Honan. CURRENCY REFORMS SHANGHAI, March 29. An American financial commission, headed by Doctor E. W. Kemmerer, after study occupying a year concernling China’s monetary system, reports advising the recorganisation of the I currency on a gold basis. The note (issue should be made a monopoly of the central reserve bank.
