MELBOURNE, March 14. , The Victorian Rifle Association s annual meeting closed with the Merrett Inter-State teams’ match which was won by Victoria with 1114, New South Wales being second with 1104. South Australia scored 1090 and Tasmania 1038. GOLF. MELBOURNE, March 14. When Hagen and Kirkwood arrived at Melbourne from Sydney to-day a large gathering of amateur and professional golfers gave thesm a fine leception. Hagen was presented with a large fire extinguisher in case his matches again should explode. Kirkwood received a large vaccination certificate as a memento of his quarantine experiences. The pair later plhyed an eighteen holes exhibition game on the Metropolitan links in the presence of the Governor-General. Stymies were excluded, Hagen, despite his injured thumb, was magnificent, especially from tee to green. He went round in 74, but miscalculated the distances owing to unfamiliarity with the course. Kirkwood was much below the form whereof he is capable, and was beaten by three strokes. BILLIARDS. LONDON, March 13. In the billiards match Lindrum has scored 13,159, including breaks of 1077, 611, 283, 1257, and 287. Smith (playing) has scored 4059, including breaks of 224 and 222 unfinished. McConachy has scored 8052, including breaks of 205, 311, 1180. Davis (playing) has made 6832, including breaks of 319, 253, 295 and 215. POLO.

TF. AROHA, March 14, There 'was great interest in the polo tourney to-day, when 500 spectators watched Wairnai A tvin the Provincial Cup from Matangi A, after a fast and gruelling game. The scores -were even, and an extra deciding chukka was played. Results: — Junior Cup semi-final: Cambridge B defeated Wairnai C 14/1. Handicap semi-finals: Waihou B (16) defeated Matangi (8) 20/17. Whangarei (12) defeated Waihou A (1) 13/6. Provincial Cup, final: Wairnai A defeated Matangi A 5/4. RUNANGA SPORTS All interested are reminded that the entries of the Runanga Sports Club will close on Wednesday evening. The programme is a good one and all the available athletes should make a point of nominating early.

WALKER V. RAMZAN KHAN. The sporting public of Greymouth and visitors for the Nelson Trotting Club’s meeting on Monday will be afforded an opportunity of witnessing one of the most important matches which has been scheduled in New Zealand since the revival of interest in the sport. This will be the meeting between tlie “Canadian Panther,” George Walker, British Empire champion, and Ramzan Khan, champion of India and Japan, and one of the most prominent present-day matmen in the world. The match is for eight tenminute rounds, and promises to be a real ding-dong go. The comparison of physique is most interesting. The measurements of the contestants are:

BLACKWATER SPORTS The Blackwater Sports Club’s annual meeting will take place in the Blackwater Domain on Easter Saturday. The programme arranged is well varied, and offers good money to competitors in chopping and track events. The Club conducts annually one of the most successful sports meetings on the Coast, and this season’s fixture promises to come well up to file standard. A dance will be held on the night of the sports, the proceeds of whch will go towards the sports funds.
