Lowry, V • McEden, and an ex-maintenance member, J. Foster, who is now an hotel pto p'rietor at Mawheraiti. Mr. Jenkins, on making the presentation, said that all were sorry to lose such a worthy inhabitant, and hoped that this transfer meant a step higher in the service. He also stated that Mr. Coom.be would be much missed from the district, as he always took a leading part in social life. He was also a member of the Ikamatua Hall Committee, and one who worked energetically to have such a fine building erected. Mr. Jenkins, when presenting Mr. Coombe with an “Omega watch”, asked the recipient to accept it as a small memento for services rendered, and also as a mark of esteem in which he was held by the members of the railway staff.

Mr. Coombe thanked the Chairman and his fellowmen for the valuable present and the kind words spoken of him, and said he did not require a memento to remind him of the time he spent in Ikamatua, for it had been most enjoyable. After the singing of “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow,” all those present ispent the remainder of the evening at the residence of Mrs. J. Jenkins.
