An official wireless message from Rugby stated that the King and Queen were arriving at London on Saturday from Sandringham. Their Majesties will take up residence at Buckingham Palace for an indefinite period, during which the King will hold a Privy Council and two Investitures, besides conducting a great deal of State business and receiving distinguished visitors from time to time. Among the Queen s public engagements will be a visit next Tuesday to the British Industries Fail. which opens the previous day. Her Majesty has made frequent visits to this fair since it was inaugurated. Mr. W. J. Moffatt has been elected chairman of the Cawthron Trust Board for the ensuing year. A cable message from Paris stated that M. Tardieu (Premier), is suffering from influenza, and his return to London has been postponed. The death is announced from Melbourne of Mr. William Thomas Appleton, managing director of Huddart Parker Limited, and chairman of the Interstate Shipping Board. The wedding will take place at Greymouth, on Tuesday, February 25 of Miss Muriel Elvy Tomasi, to Mr. Herbert Albert McPhee, of Wanganui. The latter is a • son of Mr. and Mrs J. McPhee, of Runanga. A Sydney cablegram stated that Monsignor McGuire, Vicar-General of Lismore, has been appointed Bishop of the new Roman Catholic Diocese of Townsville (Queensland). Father G. O’Collins of East Brunswick (Victoria) goes to the Bishopric of Geraldton, Western Australia. Recent arrivals at the Albion Hotel include Mr. and Mrs J. H. Barker, Mrs W. A. McCutcheon (New York); Mr. and Mrs J. W. Willetts (Invercargill), Mr. and Mrs J. R. Golding (Rangiora), Mr. and Mrs H. T. BiGraves ■ (Christchurch), Mr. R. Millar (San Francisco), Mr. J. K. Frew (Christchurch); Mr. J\ W. Adams, Mr. F. B. Woddard (Dunedin). The death was announced on Friday (telegraphed our Auckland correspondent), of Maurice Martin. De ceased lived at Waimea for many years, and also at Kumara, and Biunner, mining all over the Coast. He was a close friend of the late Mr. Seddon. Deceased was engaged for many years working on the northern goldfields. Guests at Bevington’s include:— Messrs. G. Dean, J. Leuchass, F. G. Hazelwood, R. McKenzie, McGhee, C. Taylor, H. Montague, F. Lewis (Sydney). The death took place yesterday morning, at the Grey Hospital, of Mr. Frederick William Kroening, an old resident of the Coast. He was 76 years of age, and a native of Germany. Early in his life he came to New Zealand and at his death had been connected with the West Coast for almost sixty years. He was employed on cargo vessels, including the s.s. “Waipara,” trading between Greymouth, Hokitika, South Westland and other South Island ports, and was steward to the Blackball Coal Company for twenty years. After retiring from the sea he was employed by the Mawhera Meat Company. He leaves a widow; a two sons, Fred and Otto, and one daughter, Mrs E. P. Loftus, Auckland. The funeral will take place at 2 p.m. to-morrow, from his late residence, Turamaha Street.
