FIRE OUTBREAKS

TRANTHAM stables destroyed (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, February 14. H. Brown’s stables and storerooms at Bristol Street, Trentham, were totally destroyed by fire. The stables were fortunately empty at the time, as Brown was away at the Wanganui meeting with his two horses, but the storerooms contained the tools and gear used by Brown in his business as a builder. One of his carpenters lost a motor cycle valued at £75, and a full kit of tools. An effort was made to fight the five before it gained full control, and water was brought from the main on the high road, but the fire was up a side street 150 yards from the main, and the only hose available was old and full of holes, with the consequence that not a great deal of water actually reached the fire by this means.
