PLANES FALL ON HOUSES
FIRE FOLLOWS CRASH SEVERAL LIVES LOST (By Cable—Press Assn.—Copyright.) NEW YORK, November 27. A number of persons—how many has not been determined —were killed in two houses which were destroyed by fire when two aeroplanes from Roosevelt Field fell in the vicinity of Westbury, on Long Island. A four-m.otored Fokker monoplane, one of the largest aeroplanes in the' Unite’d States, was being tested by the Department of Commerce, when it fell and struck one of the houses, which set fire to the second house. Both houses < < were destroyed. The police are unable to determine how many people were involved in the tragedy. Later, a student, who was alone in a small plane, fell into a real estate office in the heart of the town of Westbury, and was fatally injured. R.lOl’S PROGRAMME. LONDON, November 27. The Parliamentary aerial ( joy Tide in Airship R.lOl now definitely off until the New Year. It is improbable that the airship will be aloft again before the Spriiig. It is understood that the Air Ministry has every hope that the R.lOl will go to Australia in- the Spring., It also hopes that the Anglo-Aus-tralian aeroplane service will be operating in 1930. • AIR FORCE , COMMAND. The Air .Ministry has announced that Air Commodore Arthur Murray Longmore has been appointed Air Officer Commanding the Royal Air Force Depot at Cranwell, and Commandant of the Royal Air Force College, in succession to Air ViceMarshal Frederick Halahan, on the latter completing his three years’ appointment. I . • FRENCHMEN’S VENTURE. PARIS, November 28. 1 The distance record holders, Coste and Bellonte,. are planning an attempt on a record flight to Australia and back, probably'in March. HAWKE’S BAY ’PLANE . | ■ DANNEVIRKE, November 29. Hawkes Bay’s first privately-owned ’plane,. a Gipsy Moth, purchased by Mr. Hamish Armstrong, of Akitio, while recently in England, was flown to Dannevirke from Wellington yesterday, by the owner accompanied by Horace Riddell. The machine behaved splendidly and left Dannevirke this morning for the owner’s home‘ on the coast.
