BOXING.

AUCKLAND, November 8.
The Northern Boxing Association has received a cablegram from its special representative in Australia, F. Burns, suggesting that Jack Murray (welter) be engaged for matches in New Zealand. The Association/ cabled back offering Murray a match in Auckland probably against Artie Hay, the welter and middleweight champion of New Zealand. CLAY BIRD SHOOTING J f . An enjoyable day’s outing, both for shooters and onlookers, was spent on the Ikamatua Club’s ground on Labour Day. Some good shooting was done in the various matches, which • must be pleasing to those who donated some fine trophies. The ladies must also be thanked for their dainty afternoon tea which was_much appreciated. The first match was a seven bird sweepstake, the kills being:— F. Hahn on 7 yards, 4 kills; W. Russel 16 —4; B. Cropp 14—5; W. Chisnall 15—7; Geo. Hahn 20—7; G. Mirfin 18—6; J. Griffen 13—4; C. H. Cowman 12 —6; A. Mirfin 15—5; G. Feary227; B. Mirfin 16 —7.
In the shoot off the four shooters with the possible, W. Chisnall won taking first prize and B. Mirfin second. The second match, (12 bird), being the principal sho'ot for the Corliss Cup, and good trophies combining a ladies’ shoot was watched with keen interest. Result. W. Russell 16 yards—--10 kills; W. Chisnall 15—12, B. Cropp 14—11, Geo. Hahn 20—10, C. H. Cowman 12—10, F. Hahn 17—9, G. Mirfin 18—8, J. Griffen 13—11, B. Mirfin 16 —til, A. Mirfin 15 —10, G. Feary 20— 10.
W. Chisnall again shooting his possible took the first prize, Corliss Cup and trophy. In the shoot off for second prize between J. Griffen, B. Cropp and B. Mirfin with 11 kills, J. Griffen won on the eleventh bird with B. Cropp third. Miss E. Foster was the winner of the first ladies’ prize and Mrs. H. Leggoe winner of, the second ladies’. The last match was a five. bird sweepstake in which four shooters W. Russell, B. Cropp, C. H. Cowman and J. Griffen again scored the possible number of kills. In shooting off C. H. Cowman won first prize and J. Griffen second. CRICKET Cobden Seniors v. United A. at Cobden Sunday 1.30 p.m—Barlow, Knapp, Gillin, Goode, Heganbothan, Mclntosh, Langbein, Smith, E. Cobden Third Graders to attend to play at Cobden Saturday at 1.30 p.m. The following will represent United Thirds at Cobden on Saturday at 2 p.m. : McKnight, Bowes, Sargisson, Beckman/ Grant, Critchley, De Freitas, Hignett, Mitchell, Orr, Sloss, iWoollett.
