COMPULSORY CONFERENCE. (By Cable—Press Assn.— Copyright.) SYDNEY, November 7. The coal dispute in New South Wales, which has already dragged on for nine months, is now in the hands of a mediator, Mr. C. Hibble, who, at the request of the Prime Minister, Mr. J. H. Scullin, is holding a compulsory conference, under the Industrial Peace Act. Both sides are strongly represented. Mr. Hibble'opened the proceedings to-day with an expression of regret that the community had been allowed to suffer so long, and declaring that a remedy must now be found for a settlement of the trouble. He gave ap intimation that he was there as the representative of the community, which was looking to him for help towards the solution of the deadlock.
