OBITUARY
CAPTAIN P. F. CLUNIS-ROSS.
The death took place at the Grey Hospital on Saturday of Captain Percy Franc Clunis-Ross, of Cowper Street. Deceased, who for the past 28 years had been in the Union Steamship Coy s service, was born in London in 1874. Early in life he accompanied his parents to Tasmania, and was for some time a student at Hutching’s College, Hobart. He made the sea his calling, and while with the Union Company held commands which included the Horata, Haupiri, Squall and finally the Talune. Deceased, after relinquishing command of the latter vessel had shore positions at Auckland, Dunedin, Westport and Greymouth, and for the past twelve years held the position of wharfinger to the Company here.'During his residence in Greymouth the late Captain Ross earned wide respect. He was a member of the Greymouth Bowling Club. During the last twelve months his health declined, twice necessitating admission to the Grey Hospital. He leaves a widow. The funeral will take place to-morrow afternoon. To-day flags were flying half-mast at the Tiphead signal house, the Watersiders’ shed and the Union Company’s Office. MR. F. BARROWMAN. The death of another well-known Greymouth citizen, Mr. Fergus Barrowman, occurred early yesterday afternoon at his residence, Shakespeare Street. The late Mr. Barrowman was 52 years of age, and a native of Reeftofi. At an early age he went with his parents to reside on the Dillman’s Road, near Kumara, coming 38 years ago to Greymouth. He was the second son of tho late Fergus and Mary Barrowman. For 29 years he served as clerk to the Greymouth Harbour Board, and was secretary to the Grey Fire Board since its inception 13 years ago. He was for many years a member of the Greymouth Main School Committee, serving for a term as secretary, and was also a member of the Greymouth Masonic Lodge. The late Mr. Barrowman had never enjoyed the best of health, but two months ago his condition necessitated relinquishing work. He is survived by a widow and three brothers, Thomas (Franklyn Junction), William (Christchurch), and Robert (Greymouth); and one sister, Mrs| Brown (Wanganui). To-day flags were flying half-mast at the Harbour Board’s offices, the County Chambers, and the Fire Station.
