GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS

BAD WEATHER FOR OPENING THIS MORNING’S SCORES (Per Press Association.) WANGANUI, September 27. After a spell of fine weather, and with the course in first-class order, it was most unfortunate that the weather broke for the opening day’s play at Belmont to-day. When the early players were despatched, there was a cold southerly wind, with driving rain, which looks 'like continuing all day. Consequently, play is most unpleasant for the players, and the conditions will affect the scoring materially. There is a very strong representative gathering of amateurs, and the list of professionals is larger than it has been hitherto. The following are the scores: —

D. Collins 80; M- Fenwick 81; G. W. Ritchie 82; D. Gray 83; W. Lints 83 ; J. Watt 83; N. H. Fuller 94 ; F. Quin 85 ; M. B. Reilly 85 ; R. O. Gardiner 85; N. Bell 85; N. Seifert 85; F. G- Hutchison 86; A. E. Conway 86 ; J. P. Mortland 86 ; L. Quin 86; A. R. Blank 87; R. N. McNiven 89; T. S. Park 89; R. O. Chesney 89; P. Western 90; W. O’Callaghan 91; G. Pharazyn 91; J. G. Watt 91; F. G. Beaven 92; W. Harman 93; R. D. Harding 94 ; J. Quin 95 ; D. Mel drum 96.
