ALGIERS TRAGEDY.

LONDON, August 30.
The bodies of forty-two adults and eighteen children have been recovered from the building which collapsed at Algiers. BRITAIN AND CANADA OTTAWA, August 30. Speaking at a luncheon given by the Government of Ontario, Mr. J. H. Thomas (Lord Privy Seal), said: Canada should help Great Britain in the solution of her present problem. It was a fact that Britain had been for many years—and was still —Canada’s best customer. Moreover, Canada was a member of the British Commonwealth of nations, and if that institution was not worth doing a little to suppbrt, there was no use talking about the flag. By mutual conference-mu ch good could be done to promote greater interImperial trade. WILKINS’ SUBMARINE. NEW YORK, August 31. At Cleveland (Ohio), Sir H. Wilkins announced that he would shortly start, the construction of a speciallydesigned submarine to be used in geographical and meteorological explorations in South Polar regions. He expects to start about December 15, but his operations would not be in any way connected with Byrd’s exploration.
SLEEPING SICKNESS. TOKIO, September 1.
Sleeping sickness is spreading. Cases are reported from five hundred miles westward to-day.
The cases north of Tokio to Mikko, total 241, with ninety-one deaths.
