Santel, in eight rounds of rather uneventful wrestling at the Stadium last night. Neither secured a fall. There were 12,000 present. MOTOR BOAT RACING NEW YORK, Aug. 31. At Detroit, Gar Wood, in the “American Eighth,” won the first heat of the Harmsworth Cup motor-boat races, establishing a new world record of 67 point 932 miles per hour for six laps of the thirty mile course. Estelle was fourth. The British entry, driven by an Englishwoman, Marion Carstairs developed ignition trouble in the third lap and did not complete the course, and although she way race in the second heat on Monday, her performance cannot count for the Cup, which will remain in America, because all other entries are American. BILLIARDS. MELBOURNE, September 2. Showing greatly improved form, Smith compiled a break of 1063 against McConachy, who, however, still holds, the lead. McConachy 11,050 (breaks of 346, 453, 576, unfinished), Smith 9,214. BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIPS. AUCKLAND, September 1. The New Zealand badminton championships were concluded yesterday. Results were as follow: Men’s singles, J. R. Southon; ladies’ singles, Miss A. Ellett; men’s doubles, Kelly and'McLean; ladies’ doubles, Mrs Hetley and Mrs Harvey; combined doubles, Miss Ellett and Kelly.
