KUMARA NOTES

Within the past few days, two ears travelling on the Christchurch road in the vicinity of Taipo, met with accidents, both leaving the road and landing in the Taramakau river bed. The occupants, with the exception of one, who was rather seriously injured, escaped unhurt. Mr John Hurren, who has been visiting the North Island, returned home on Thursday evening. A painful accident occurred to Mr Charles McDonald of the Beach. He was removing a kettle of boiling water from the fire, when it overturned severely scalding both feet. The condition of Mrs H. Hamer, Junr., who was reported seriously ill, is said to have improved. Mr S. Aydon, who together with his family have resided in Kumara for some years, left yesterday for Nel-, son, where they will in future reside, Mr Aydon having taken over the business of his late father, whose death was recorded last week. Mr Campbell, who has been visiting Christchurch* has returned home.
Mrs Theo. Saraty yesterday received word of the death of her sister, which took place recently in Syria. Mr W. J. Mcllroy, a former resident of Kumara, but now of Christchurch, is seriously indisposed.
