REPARATIONS ENQUIRY

DOMINIONS’ QUOTA

(Australian Press Assn.—United Service.) (By Cable—Press Assn.—Copyright.)

LONDON, May 10.

News from Paris states that there is no change in the Reparations situation. Herr Schacht conferred with other experts on. tlie subject to call a full meeting. . x Meanwhile Mr. Young’s distribution plan is the subject of private discussions. The British attitude remains as cabled. It is confirmed, that Mr. Young’s proposal left Britain nothing for the Dominions for debt arrears The fact that the Dominions were not directly represented at the conference is regarded by the British delegation as a greater reason, if reason were needed, for not yielding on the subject of the Dominion’s share. The British delegation’s immediate rejection of Mr. Young’s proposal to reduce this share to zero, is therefore self explanatory. The “Daily Telegraph’s” diplomatic correspondent says he is able to reveal that the British Empire would have received only £35,500,000 out of five hundred millions earmarked under Mr. Young’s plan for reparations proper, and miscellaneous claims. The proportion of reparations would, therefore, be reduced from 23 to only 65 per centum. Incidentally, the Dominion’s .claim, amounting to about sixty millions, was wiped off the map by Mr Young.
