RUNANGA NOTES

Misses May and Margaret Haldane of Dunedin are spending their holidays in Runanga and are the guests of Mrs S. Morris.

A boys’ bicycle race was held on Wednesday evening. The run was half-way to the Seven Mile and back. Kennedy was first, making the fastest time, which was 13mins 55secs. R. Wainman was second. Another bicycle race was held on Sunday morning. There were twelve starters. J. Wilson was first, and also made fastest time, doing the run to the Seven Mile and back in 15min 56sec. which is a record for a boys’ race. R. Wainman was second with Devine third.

Mr and Mrs J. Ashurst were visitors at Runanga over the week-end. The Runanga Tennis team journeyed to Waiuta on Sunday to try conclusions with the Waiuta. team. The Methodist Sunday School held their annual picnic at Punakaiki on Saturday. The local school picnic is to be held at Hokitika on Saturday. During the week, somebody took the opportunity of helping himself to a hurricane lamp which was attached to a barricade on Mills Street bridge. The absence of the lamp might have caused a-serious accident. Miss Parsonage, who was visiting Runanga for the week-end, was a competitor in.the swimming Carnival. Miss L. Davidson who has been an inmate of the Grey Hospital, returned to her home to-day. Miss Pickering was a passenger to Christchurch on Saturday.
