In being handicapped on 60yds behind a 4.25 mark in the New Zealand Trotting Gold Cup, the four-year-old pacer Kingscraft has become eligible for the New Zealand Cup. The conditions for inclusion in New Zealand premier light harness race reads thus :—

For horses that have done or been handicapped to do 4.26 or better: even allowing for the tightening up of one second, which is very likely, the Quincey—Colene Pointer gelding seems sure to find a place in the handicaps for lie'xt November’s contest. Kingcraft can boast of stout breeding, as his dam is by Logan Pointer from Queen Cole by King Cole. Owing to her erratic ways the owner decided to try her-at the stud, the most unfashionable Quincey was selected, and Kingcraft is the result of that matingThe spell in the patron’s paddock evidently had the desired effect with Colene Pointer, as she afterwards won quite a number of good handicaps. This season she has been retired from the race track, and is on a visit to the Oamaru-owned Guy Parrish. The sister to Te Moranui Ohinemuri should not be long in catching a stake. She performed well at Ellerslie —maabe to-day in the Thames Cup, where she is leniently treated with 7.7. Flying Juliet is another who may not be long in rekarding her followers? Her close fourth behind the deadheaters Vertigern and Concentrate in the Grandstand Handicap on the concluding day at Auckland is indicative that her turn will come shortly. The class engaged in the Goldfields Cup at Thames to-day should suit her to a nicety with the impost of 7.12. A later engagement in the Hauraki Plains Handicap, 7 furlongs with 8.13, should see her again prominent. Among the sprinters engaged at Thames two that showed decent form at the Ellerslie Carnival are Billikins and High Finance.

The brothers, A.E. and L. J. Ellis, are at present at the head of the winning jockeys’ list, the former with 26 and the later 21 winning mounts. An elder brother, F. W. Ellis, holds pride of place in the winning trainers’ list. A notable entrant for the Wellington Cup is the nine-year-old Martian gelding Rapine, winner of the event in 1&23-
