ROBERTS DEFEATS GILLESPIE (Australian Press Association.) (By Cable—Press Assn—Copyright.) SYDNEY, December 9. At the Stadium there was a remarkable ending to a vigorous fight between Norman Gillespie (9.8), of Melbourne, and Jack Roberts (9.7), of Newcastle. The contest was going in favour of Gillespie, when in the eighth round the press bell rang, which Gillespie misunderstood for the gong. He was backing to his corner when a vicious blow to the solar plexus knocked him out. Roberts was declared the winner. CONGRESS DEFEATS HYLAND. AIELBOURNE. December 9. At the stadium, Dick Congress outpointed George Hyland, in a fifteen rounds bout. It was a tame affair. GODDARD RETIRES. LONDON, December 9. Frank Goddard, a former British heavyweight champion has quitted the ring and sailed for America to take up farming. He is aged thirty four.
