REEFTON JOCKEY CLUB The nominations for the Reefton Jockey Club’s Midsummer Meeting, which closed on Saturday night, are easily a record, totalling 305 as against 287 for last year. The Trotting nominations are particularly gratifying being some 102 for the four races, compared with 81 last year. There are a number of horses making their first trip to the Coast, and the quality generally is improved.

BEAU GESTE’S WIN. (Special to "Star.”) ASHBURTON, December 8. In spite of there being only three contestants for tire principal event, there was good support for each. A splendid finish was witnessed. Front Rank went to the front shortly after the despatch, and led Sir Roy and Beau Geste into the straight. Beau Geste moved up at the commencement of the home run. The three were practically in line at the inside distance.

The winner was well concealed until the last few strides, Beau Geste, putting in a final spurt to gain the victory by a head from Front Rank, who beat Sir Roy by a neck. Beau Geste showed marked stamina in the hard finish, while Sir Roy seemed to weaken when pressure was applied. Front Rank ran a good race. Although she appeared to be beaten off a hundred yards off the post she came again at the finish to cut Sir Roy out of third money.

Beau Geste has proved a good pro position for his owner, who did not have to make a big outlay when he acquired him last season. He will probably go south for the holiday meetings. and more success seems in view for him.
