During a fight between two men over a betting transaction, at a hotel in Waterloo suburb Last night, Robert Prophett, 36, attempted to separate the combatants, when somebody fired a revolver and shot Prophett in the abdomen. critically injuring himThe police have arrested a young man, who was seen to walk outside with a revolver in his hand. Prophett was a former Aiderman of that municipality. Prophett died to-day. Thomas Garney, 26, was charged with having murdered Prophett. FATAL INJURIES. SYDNEY, December 10. Mysterv surrounds the death of Edward Leach, forty-three, who. was found lying on a heap of coke in the backyard of his home at Annandale. A doctor was called but Leach died before his arrival. . Deceased had a large wound in the forehead, and several other wounds in the back of his head. The doctor declined to'give a death certificate. . The police are making enquiries, and a post mortem examination has been ordered.
