MEETINGS

WEST COAST RUGBY LEAGUE. A meeting of the Sports Committee was held last evening, Mr W. Ryan presiding over a full attendance. The Organiser submitted the following Sports Programme for the Gala Day on Friday, the 2Sinst., which was adopted:—One o’clock, Grand Procession through town to Victoria Park, on arrival, Sheffield Handicap 120 yards, £8; League Teams’ Relay Race 880 yards, prizes four gold medals; Maiden Cycle Race, £2; Open Mile Cycle Handicap, £5; Open Half-Mile Cycle Handicap, £5; Tug of War, six men a-side, weight limit 66 stone, prizes gold medals; Motor Bike Handicap, three miles, £5; Motor Bike Handicap, 5 miles, £5; Greasy Pig Hunt, prize, the pig; Baby Show (two sections, prizes £1 each); Kiddies’ Tricycle Handicap, prize £1; Ladies’ event, best and longest head of hair, prize 10/-; Blindfold Boxing, various weights, prizes, medals. Apart from the foregoing events, an '‘ugly man” competition will be held, this event is new to Greymouth and should prove a. great attraction. The side shows will be a feature of the day’s sport and will include many new to Ihe West Coast. Bands will be in attendance while the usual refreshment booth will bo run by the committee, and afternoon tea, ice creams and seasonable drinks will be dispensed by the ladies. Taken throughout, the programme is varied and interesting, and should draw a record crowd. In the evening, a grand sports and vaudeville entertainment will be held when the finals of the tug of war and blindfold boxing will be staged, thus providing a fitting conclusion to a great day’s sport.

BRUNNER LODGE. The half-yearly meeting and installation of officers of Brunner Lodge U. No- 64 was held in the lodge room, Wallsend. on Wednesday. A.D. (Bro. J. Wilson) presiding over a large attendance of officers, members and visitors. After general routine business had been conducted, the District President (Bro. J. Williams, of Westland Lodge) assisted by P. 1). P. Bro. H. Heenan) installed the following officers for the current term :—J.P.A., Bro- J- Wilson; A.D., Bro. Morgan; V. Bro. A. Harper; V.A.8., Bro. H. McLuskie and T. Morgan ; A.D.8., Bros. J. Pender and M. McLuskie; LG., Bro- J- Cosgrove; 0.G., Bro. W. Cosgrove; secretary, Bro. H. Keenan (re-elected); treasurer, Bro. J. Niirimo (re-elected); auditors. Bros. M. Malone and PL McLuskie. The District President, in concluding the ceremony, thanked Lodge members and also the district in general for the reception that had been accorded him during his term of office. The various officers replied thanking the District President for his address, and that the Lodge would have their best in the interests of Drnidism. The Lodge was then duly closed, and the brethren adojurned to the social evening tendered to them at Mr and Mrs H. McLuskie’s now residence. The dining room was decorated with .Japanese sunshades and lanterns, and in the centre a pyramid adorned with dainty fringes and tinselled paper that hung from t’he pyramid and fitted admirably into the general scheme. The following toasts were honoured : “The King and the Order, Grand Lodge and Officers,’’ responded to by P.P Bro. J- Williams and P-D.P. IL Keenan; song, “Bonny Mary of Argyle,” Mr IL Haglund; “Visiting Lodges.” responded to by PL Lock (Hokitika) and H. Hall (Star of the West Lodge) ; “The Newly-elected Officers,” responded to by Bros. J. Wilson, J. Cosgrove, T. Morgan and Geo. Morgan ; song, “Are We to part This Way,” J. Pender; “Brunner Lodge,” responded to by Bro. .IL Keenan and J. Nimmo; “Local Visitors,” responded to by Bro- William Purdy, Robert Fordenn and .1Rothera. Several musical items were given during the evening. The tables were tastefully laid, and the function concluded with “Auld Lang Syne” and cheers for Air and Airs McLuskie and family.
