A London cablegram stated that Sir Thomas Mackenzie will leave for New Zealand by the Remuera on November 23. There is friendly rivalry among the suburbs of Auckland, according to the “Sun,” which says: “Birkenhead is evidently a little jealous of the fact that Mr A. E. Greenslade, Mayor of Northcote, should have annexed the prize in the men’s beauty competition, at Birkenhead, last Saturday. At the meeting of the Birkenhead School Committee last evening it. was decided to write to the Northcote Borough (Council, complimenting it upon having such a beautiful Mayor. It was fcilso decided to say that the committee regretted the prize went out of Birkenhead, but, if the prize had been for women, Northcote would not have had a chance.”
