MR. HOOVER’S WIN
VISIT TO S. AMERICA. ' \ ' (Australian Press Assn'—United Service.) (By Cable —Press Assn.—Copyright.) WASHINGTON, November 10. It is proposed that a “goodwill” visit be paid by Mr Hoover on an American battleship to South America before his inauguration as President. This is considered here one of the most important diplomatic moves ever undertaken by an American President elect. There are few precedents for such an undertaking, but it is emphasised that America is growing aware of the necessity for bettering her relationship with Latin America. The United States embargoes against the Argentine meats, fruits and corn have engendered considerable ill feeling in that Republic, and unquestionably have endangered the American market for manufactured goods. The United States has never held a favourable position in the South American market, and Mr Hoover’s visit is considered to be the preliminary to an expansive movement by the American manufacturers to compete with the British and the German producers for the South American trade.
STOCK EXCHANGE BOOM. NEW YORK, November 10. A Hoover boom, which has been in progress on the Stock Exchange evei since the election, continued even in the short Saturday session, the total sales being 3,278,000 shares, which established a new Saturday trading record. The tickers as usual were far behind the market, and the brokers are already beginning to show the strain of the past few days’ feverish activity.
