CONFERENCE REMITS

WELLINGTON, October 12.

The following remits were passed ai the Dominion Conference of the Asso ciated Chambers of Commerce

That the Conference again brings under the notice of the Government the urgency for the cancellation of the C.O.D. system between other countries and New Zealand, which is seriously affecting traders of the Dominion, who are subject to taxes, rates, rents, etc. That this Conference protests against Government trading ventures being accorded the protection of the Crown Suits Act, and considers that where the. Crown is a litigant in respect of trading ventures, it should be bound by the same rules and laws as operate between subject and subject.

That the Executive promote a Bill : That, inasmuch as legislation is frequently enacted before the Provincial Chambers are aware of the details, it is desirable that, with a view to keeping such Chambers informed of new legislation, the Association appoint a competent person, at a salary if necessary, to peruse all Parliamentary Bills brought down affecting commercial interests, and to report theyeon to the various Chambers, the costs to be provided, if necessary, by a levy on the various Chambers.

That it is desirable that the Government set up a commission to consider the question of unemployment, and that the Chambers of Commerce prepare evidence to lay before such commission.

That the Government be urged to consider the possibility of securing a more regular and more frequent service between South Island ports and Melbourne.
