BLACKBALL NOTES
(Our Own Correspondent.) Between 12 and 1 o’clock on Saturday morning a disastrous fire broke PUt on the premises occupied by Mr Jas. Lancaster, and family, at Blackball, and situated on the hillside, in close: proximity to the Blackball railway station. With the sole exception of a few personal belongings, everything was destroyed. The insurances were £l5O on the building and £5O on the furniture. Word was received in Blackball on Sunday evening that Mr Noah Harrison, a former resident of this township, and late of Templeton, Canterbury, had died at the Christchurch Hospital on Saturday evening from the effects of a severe attack of double pneumonia. The deceased was 35 years of age, and in June visited Blackball and Westport, on holiday. He was a. native of Golborne, Lancashire, England, and at one time assisted Lowton Rovers as a wing threequarter in the Leigh and District Rugby League. He leaves a widow and four children. Mrs R., Nelson (sister) of Blackball, left for Christ; church on Saturday, September 29. Whilst at Blackball, Mr Harrison was employed by the. local Coal Company, as a. pumps attendant. He was one of the pioneers of League football .in the Blackball district. Mrs N. Clarke and Mrs J. Vaughan (sisters), Mr H. Harrison (Westport), brother, Mr R. Nelson (brother-in-law), Mr A. Clarke (nephew),; and Mrs Clarke, and Mr Frank Clarke (nephew) left by this (Monday) morning’s train for Christchurch to attend the funeral.
