SCHOOL SOCCER

MARISTS v. GREY MAIN. Marist and State tried, conclusions again yesterday at the Recreation Ground for the Kent Cup, when the former won by 3 to 2, after a fairly even game. With the wind, M.irist were unable to score until five minutes before half time, when Duffy placed one from a scramble in front of the goal mouth. Returning again to the attack they were almost through, but Clarke briliantly scooped the ball Irom the mud. Pres;on, however, was handy and forced it through. With Mari’-t two up, State put forth a spurt and quickly went up field for De freatus to goal. At half-time the score was 2 to 1 in favour of Marist. < '!• resuming, State attacked strongly, and were almost over on several occasions, but Marshal, Kiely and Heaphy resisted stoutly. Duffy and Roberts put in two fine solo efforts, from one of which Roberts scored. State woke up and de Freatus, Jarden and McHugh combining nicely worked down field and the former netted a. nice shot. State were out to win and kept hammering away, but had their usual ill-luck, as territorially they had the best of it. They were still attacking when time was called, with Marist tihe winners by the odd goal in five. Mr A. G. Williams <refereed.
