GREAT WELCOME TO WILLIAMS.
(Australian Press Association.) 'By Cable —Press Assn.—Copyright.)
(Received September 15, 10.30 a.m.) VANCOUVER, September 14.
Following a civic banquet to-night, the Parliamentarians left for Kamloops, en route to the East. Their departure passed unnoticed in the tremendous excitement caused by the homecoming of Percy Williams, the Olympic sprint champion. Thousands thronged the streets, and a cheering procession, over a mile long, escorted the runner, his mother, and his trainer to Stanley Park, where a huge crowd gathered. The whole of the city practically made holiday. Bob Grainger, the trainer, was presented with a purse of five hundred dollars. A twenty-five thousand dollars fund to provide Percy with a University education is being raised. The Premier, Senator, members of Parliament and civic officials, united to honour the local hero. The Mayor presented him with the city’s gift of an automobile.
