INFLUENZA

OUTBREAK IN NORTH

AUCKLAND, August 24.

Pneumonia and influenza are epidemic in Hokianga district, and the hospital at Rawene is crowded. George Ferguson of Broadwood, a member of the Hokianga Rugby team, who had been selected to play against North Auckland touring team died suddenly on the eve of the game after a short illness. A dance to the visitors was abandoned, and no. pictures were shown on Saturday. Dr. Chesson, medical officer in charge of the district, has been notified of four deaths since the epidemic, two men including Ferguson, and two children. In the case of one man and one child, pneumonia following influenza was the cause. The other two contracted meningitis following influenza.
