WOOL CONFERENCE
BRADFORD’S REQUIREMENTS. f ' (Australian Press Association.) (By Cable—Press Assn.—Copyright.) LONDON, July 14. The Wool Conference has opened at Bradford. Sir H. Barwell (Australia) said that the Australian growers considered that the remuneration did not sufficiently encourage the production of fine wools, but they would do their best to meet Bradford’s requirements. Mr Van Breda (South America) asked what was the guarantee that the i-.mand for fine wools would be permanent. Their demand in 1919 was for strong wools. Mr Harry Dawson said they wanted soft wool to blend with artificial silk for underwear. Doctor Barker announced that the Empire Marketing Board had granted £2OOO a year for two years to enable Doctor Nicholls, of the British Research Association to investigate wool production in the Dominions. He was going to Australia in October. Mr Aykroyd announced that a new waterproof wool pack had been invented by a Bradford man, Mv Baddeley. It was made of wire and paper, and was lined with wool. He expressed the opinion that practical Bradford woolmen ought to accompany, Dr Nicholls. AMERICAN COMBINE. NEW YORK, July 14. At Salt Lake, Mr Frank Hagenbarth,' President of the National Wool Growers, announced the formation of a pool involving fifty million pounds weight of fleeces annually, and aiming at the domination of the American market, and the stabilisation of prices to a parity with foreign import prices.
