GOODS TRAIN DERAILED

MAIN-TRUNK MISHAP MANY CATTLE KILLED (Per Press Association.) PUKEKOHE, June 23. A through goods train, Auckland bound, was derailed shortly after six o’clock this morning, about two miles north of Pukekohe. Thirty-three trucks were piled in an indescribable mass. Six trucks laden with cattle were telescoped, a number of animals being killed, and others dying, while a number with broken backs and legs necessitated destruction. One waggon left the rails about a quarter of a mile south of the scene, and was dragged this distance, finally the others telescoping. The railway track is torn up for three chains, with twisted sleepers. A break-down gang is engaged in extricating the unfortunate animals. The scene is terrible. , ... All trains are held up. The W ellmg-ton-Auckland ordinary express pieceded the ill-fated goods. Passengers and goods are being transferred at Pukekohe and Pareta. It is expected that the line will be cleared to-night.

A shocking night express disaster occurred at Bolnaes, two.hundred miles north of Stockholm. Owing to a wrong signal, the express dashed into an auxiliary engine. The front coaches were derailed and set afire. Both locomotives were smashed. There was terrible confusion in the darkness. Nine bodies and thirty-five badly injured have already been extricated but is is feared that the casualties are much heavier, and probably include some foreign tourists.
