REEFTON NOTES
(Our Own Correspondent.)
REEFTON, June 23 Mr John Cairns, of the local Railway staff, has been transferred to Timaru, and with Mrs Cairns left for his new home by Thursday’s overland
train. During the last two days Reefton has been enveloped in a heavy blanket of fog. This while preventing hard frosts makes’outside conditions' very unpleasant. At 7 a.m. to-day it is raining, and with a silver thaw the roads are very slippery. The Waratah Football Club’s ball was well attended last night. A distinctive feature .of the decorations was the club’s colours, red and white, being much in evidence, greenery and a series of mirrors around the walls at regular intervals gave an attractive finish to the decorative scheme. The result of the cold weather made the night ideal for dancing, and the capable M.C., Mr W. Hunt, kept the dancers merrily engaged the large attendance and handsome costumes worn by the ladies present made a pretty sight. The music was in the hands of the Excelsior Orchestra, under the leadership of Mrs S. Magee, who presided at piano, Mr Jackson violophone, and Ron Magee in charge of the drums and jazz effects. A ladies’ committee consisting of the club supporters provided a dainty supper. During the supper adjournment Mr W. Rivers, President of the Club, thanked all present for their attendance and help in making the ball a. success, the large attendance testifying to the popularity of the club. Dancing was continued to a late hour.
