Mrs J. P. Riordan left this morning on holiday to Wellington. Mr R. T. Stewart left tb-day by express t'oi’ Christchurch. Mrs E. Kennedy and Mrs T. E. Ward (Runanga) will return from Christchurch to-day. A London cable message stated that the Rt. Hon. J. H. Whitley,. M.P., late Speaker of the House of Commons, has resigned his seat for Halifax. To-day is the birthday of H.R.H. the Prince of Wales. His age is thirtyfour years. Flags were flown from public buildings. Mr A. D. Baggs, Superintending Engineer of Telegraphs, who has been visiting the West Coast, returned today to Christchurch. Mr .1. P. Forbes and Mr W. E. Reynolds left this morning for Christchurch, where they will attend the Dental Conference. Mr G. A. Revell was, on the motion of Mr H. W. Kitchingham, admitted as a, barrister at yesterday’s sitting of the Supreme Court at Greymouth, by Mr Justice Adams. Passengers on to-day’s express from Christchurch include: Mr and Mrs H. Bignell, Mr and Mrs R. Hall, Rev. Father Herring (Reefton), Miss V. Kettle, Messrs McGlashan, Larsen, Hugh, James and Martin Kennedy (Totara Flat). Guests at the Albion Hotel include: Messrs Justice Frazer, J. A. Gilmour, H. Sharpe, A. J. Lihney, R. Hyams, D. Foster (Wellington), R. B. Wheeley, W. C. Cockcroft, A. L. Gray, G. T. Booth, G. P. Mortin, E. D. Smith, A. C. Brown (Christchurch.).

The Bishop of Nelson (Dr. Sadlier) has received cable advice that his younger son “Pa.t” has obtained his honours B.A. degree at Cambridge. Last year, Mr Sadlier obtained the English tripos, and this year the geographical.

His Honour Mr Justice Frazer, Messrs G. T. Booth (Assessor for the employers) and J. Gilmour (Registrar) of the Arbitration Court, who have been holding sittings on the West Coast, left this morning for Christchurch.

The wedding Was celebrated on Thursday at All Saints’ Church, Hokitika, of Ella Catherine, third daughter of Mrs J. Marshall, of Christchurch, to James MacMillan, second son of Mr J. Mann, of Brick Street, Greymouth. The. Rev. H. Nelson Wright was the officiating minister.

— 1 , The death occurred suddenly at Motueka yesterday of Mi’ Thomas Fdx> hotelkeeper, of Ahaura. Deceased was a native of Tasmania, and was about fifty years of age. He is survived by his widow and a family of four. For some time past deceased’s healih had not been good. He was a well-known sawyer in his day. Interment will take place at Motueka.

The death took place at Lewisham Hospital, Christchurch, yesterday of Mr Patrick Kennedy, one of the oldest residents of Totara Flat, at the age of 87 years. Deceased was a native of Tipperary, Ireland, and had been farming at Totara. Flat for about 50 years, where he had a considerable holding. He leaves a widow, three daughters, Mrs J. Fitzgerald (Ikamatua), M. McGrath (Greymouth), and Miss N. Kennedy (Totara Flat), and five sons, Hugh and Martin (Christchurch), and John, Patrick and James (at home). The funeral will leave the Catholic Church, Totara Flat, for Ahaura Cemeterv, at 11.30 on Monday morning.
