WINTER SHOW
PEOPLE’S DAY SUCCESS | (Our Own Correspondent.) HOKITIKA, May 31. People’s Day, though the weather conditions were unpropitious, saw a very large attendance at the KokatahiKoiterangi Winter Show. The Coast, from Hari Hari in the South to Greymouth in the North was well repre- ' seated. The number of cars reminded one of a race meeting. Constable Drummond as “parking officer” assisted drivers materially in finding a spare corner for their cars. The interior of the hall was positively packed with visitors. At 2 p.m. the President (Mr. AV. Jamieson) addressed the large assemblage. The Hon. H. L. Michel M.L.C. heartily congratulated the committee on the success of the Show and the district on the wonderful effort. Mr. T. E. Y. Seddon M.P., Mr. J. O’Brien, Mr. H. E. Holland M.P. and Mr. A. E. Wells (Westland County Chairman) also spoke in congratulatory terms. Mr. Jamieson formally declared the Show open. Apologies for absence were received from the Mayor of Greymouth (Mr. J. AV. Greenslade) and. Mr. Perry (Mayor of Hokitika). At 4 p.m. exhibitors commenced to dismantle their exhibits and dispose of them by sale and a ready sale was always foujnd'. The poultry section was much admired by fanciers and Mr. Seddon referred particularly to this section.
Outside, Mr. D. Streeter had an exhibition of mechanical contrivances. A clay pigeon match was a diversity. The committee have every reason to be proud of this their seventh annual Show. .......
