(Received May 31, 9.30 a.m.) ROME, May 30.

An official version of the anti-Italian riots, .at Spalato, asserts that, despite Italian warnings regarding the need for precautions, the Jugo-Slav authorities allowed 500 students and Apaches to run through the entire town, completely ruining numerous shops. Notwithstanding the protests, there was a renewal the following day. There were also outbreaks at Sebinico, Ragusa, Zagres and Belgrade.

MORE DEMONSTRATIONS.

Despite severe precautions, further anti-Italian demonstrations occurred in leading cities. At the National Theatre, Belgrade, men in the gallery, chiefly students, cheered France, and indulged in hostile cries against Italy. The Foreign Minister (Dr Marinkovitch) occupying a box with the French Ambassador, immediately quitted. The police dispersed demonstrators outside and there were several arrests.

The rector closed the university for three days, owing to collisions with' the police. Mounted gendarmerie charged demonstrators at Serajevo, arresting twenty-five. The Nationalist organisation meets at Belgrade on June 3, and will protest against the events at Zara.

REPARATION DEMAND.

ROME, May 29.

Following the students’ riots in Jugo-Slavia, the Italian Government has presented a note demanding immediate reparation for the damage done to Italian property, and asking that effective steps be taken to prevent any repetition. Serious developments are not expected.
