WIRELESS IN CONTROL
SHIP EVADES BOMBARDMENT. (Australian Press Association.) (By Cable—Press Assn— Copyright > MALTA, May 25, A feature of the British naval exercises was the shelling of the old battleship “Centurion,” which was wirelessly controlled. It has been for several days attacked by shells of all weights and calibres, but without, a man on board. She dodges, alters her speed and course, and puts up smoke screens. AMERICAN NAVAL PROGRAMME. WASHINGTON. May 24. Any doubts as to the attitude of the State Department towards the Naval Bill, now pending in the Senate, in view of the optimism held out for the adoption of a multilateral treaty for the outlawry of war, were dispelled to-day with the assertion by Mr Kellogg (Secretary of State) that there had been no change of policy. He thought that, the building programme provided by the House "was a. good one, and should be passed by the Senate.
It was admitted to-day that Mr Kellogg had discussed the situation informally with several Senators, due to the measure being held up by a legislative jam in the Senate. It was added that the State Department had not even indicated if it wanted the Naval Bill held up at this time.
