ALL BLACKS’ TOUR

A POPULAR DECISION. (Australian Press Association.) (By Gable—Press Assn.—Copyright.) DURBAN, May 25. The Euripedes is delayed here. The All Blacks are going to Capetown by train on Monday morning. The All Blacks have undertaken to fulfil the engagement for May 30. The South African Rugby Board offered to provide, a special train, but, owing to the enormous cost of it. Manager Hornig declined the offer, and the team are travelling by an ordinary train. This refusal has created the best impression.

LOST MEDAL RECOVERED. (Special to "Star.”) AUCKLAND, May 25. Mr J. T. Dumbell, senr., of Now Plymouth, has had brought back to him stirring memories of the “eighties,”’ when he was a member of the first All Black team which visited Australia. Mr Dumbell lost his All Black medal in 1888, in the mud at Newtown Park, Wellington. In spite of strenuous efforts to trace it through the Press the medal could not be found and hope was abandoned. Howover. three years ago, it was found by Mr William Robertson, of Tauniaranui, at. Middlemarch, in Central Otago. Although Mr Dumbell’s name was inscribed on it, Mr Robertson’s attempt to return it to its owner was unavailing because Mr Dumbell had changed his address, having shifted from Khandallah to New Plymouth, on retirement from a responsible position in the head office of the Audit Department. Mr Dumbell was finally found, and to his great, pleasure, the medal was returned to him, after varied and unexplained travels. The inscription on one side of the medal is “Ake ake ake kia. kaha.” “For over and ever and ever be strong”—which was the war cry of the All Black team in 1884.
