DISPUTE OVER A BOTTLE.
A bottle caused a miniature fracas last night, which resulted in a powerfully. built young man facing Mr Meldrum, S.AL, at the Police Court y this morning on a charge of having assaulted Percy J. Patterson, licensee of the Union Hotel. Senior Sergt. Poach stated the dispute appeared to have occurred over a bottle of brandy. The defendant had had a few drinks, and the thought of the .bottle of brandy was rankling in his mind. About 8 o’clock, he went into the bar, grabbed hold of the licensee, and unceremoniously forced him into the passage, warning him in fistic mood, that he would have a “piece of him’’ before he went to bed. The pieces, however, comprised portion of Patterson’s shirt. The latter was also subjected to rough handling. The defendant, whose name was suppressed on the application of Mr W. J. Joyce, pleaded guilty and was fined £l, with costs amounting to £l.
