OTAGO AND SOUTHLAND ASSN. A meeting of those interested in the formation of an Otago and Southland Association was held in the Municipal Chambers last evening, there being present. .Messrs Wingham, Kehoe, Bateman, Rodgers, Bruce, Sullivan, Falconer, Lousley, Milne, Casey, Orr, Kerr, Rivers, Scott, McNeil, Stent, Torrance and Gilmour. Apologies were received from Messrs Evans, Eggleton, Pearson, Cameron, McLaren and Keddie.
Mr. James Wingham was elected chairman, and Messrs Kehoe and Bateman. joint secretaries pro tern. On the motion of Messrs Sullivan and Bateman, it was resolved that an Otago and Southland Association be formed at Greymouth to comprise exOtagoans and Southlanders now resident on the West Coast.
Messrs Rodgers and Stent moved that a committee consisting of the Chairman, joint secretaries, and Messrs Casey, Sullivan, Stent' and Scott, be formed to draw up a constitution and to submit a full report to a general meeting.—Carried. Various speakers referred to the large number of people on the West Coast who hailed from Otago and Southland, and that only the loyal cooperation of all concerned was necessary to make the Association a really live body. The original intention was to hold a re-union banquet. While this would eventuate it was contended that the establishment of an Association would bring ex-Otagoans and ex-Southland-ers into closer touch, and would achieve the worthy object of perpetuating the memory of the splendid pioneers of their districts.
