Messrs R. Cooper and S. Clark left to-day on a holiday trip to Ashburton.

Messrs Burns and E. Case left this morning for Wellington.

Miss E. Costello left to-day on a holiday visit to Wellington.

Miss K. Greaney left to-day on holiday to the North Island.

Mr T. S. Bishop (Chenol representative), returned to Christchurch this morning.

Messrs A. D. McGavock and C. Biggs left to-day on a visit to the Rotorua forestry plantations.

Mrs H. A. Kinniburgh, who has been visiting Mr and Mrs F. H. Denton, left to-day for Christchurch.'

Mrs E. T. Robinson, who was present at the Jubilee, left to-day for Christchurch.

Sir Thomas MacKenzie, and Mr Walter Brydon, who have been visiting the West Coast, returned to-day to Christchurch.

Archdeacon Carr will return by this afternoon’s express from Auckland, where he has been in connection with the death of his father.

Mr A. A. McFayden, who has been visiting the West Coast for the Jubilee, returned to Melbourne this morning.

Mr John Jobberns, stationmaster at Ikamatua, has been transferred on promotion to Ngahere. He will take up his new duties next week.

Mr F. J. Jones, Chairman of the Railway Board of Management, has asked tto be from his position. It is stated that his resignation has been accepted.

Mr C. Piner, of Annat, Canterbury, who has been attending the Jubilee celebrations, as the guest of Mr and Mrs J. Piner, Runanga, returned home to-day.

The Rev. Nelson Wright and Mrs Wright (of Riccarton), were visitors to Hokitika during this week. Mr Wright has been offered the cure of the Parish, and it is understood that he will accept.

Guests at the Albion Hotel include: Miss Louis, Messrs Richards, W. E. Cockcroft, D. K. Haberfield, J. B. Lindsay (Christchurch), A. W. Waters, A. S. Craighead (Wellington), G. Collins. C. Webley, C. Goodman (Nelson).

A Tokio cablegram stated that it is officially announced the funeral of Princess Sachito will be on March 13. There will be no period of Court mourning, the reason being her infancy. The Emperor’s Coronation plans are unchanged.

The marriage of John, youngest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. Michel, for many years in Greymouth, to Rita second daughter of Mrs. T. Smithson (Wellington), took place on Wednesday, February 22, at Trinity Church, Newtown, Rev. R. Harris officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Michel are spending their honeymoon on the Coast and will return to Wellington on Tuesday.

The death occurred yesterday morning of Mr Oliver Mewhinney, aged 45, of Pipitea Street, Wellington. He was Private Secretary to the late Rt. Hon. R. J. Seddon, Hon. T. Y. Duncan, Hon. R. McNab and was associated with Mr J? D. Ritchie (Land Purchase Officer). Before joining the Public Service, he was a journalist on the now defunct “Globe” published in Dunedin. At that time when a circus was on at Dunedin, Mr Mewhinney accepted a challenge and entered the- cage of a roaring lion, for which he received a gold medal.

The death occurred this morning at the Westland hospital of Mrs Caroline Eggeling, aged 62. She had been ailing for the past few weeks. She had been living for some time at Gladstone, and leave two daughters, Mrs Thomas Smith (Cobden), and Mrs J. J. Williams, of Hokitika. She is survived by her husband. The funeral will take place to-morrow (Sunday) afternoon, leaving the residence of her daughter; Mrs J. J. Williams, Hajnpden Street, Hokitika, for All Saints Church.
