THE COMMON COLD

CAN IT BE CURED? (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, January 12. “Nobody will ever cure the common cold,” declared a Harley Street doctor, in connection with the American cablegram that £39,000 had been given to the University of Baltimore, for the study of the origin and nature, and a possible cure of the common cold. The specialist added that study was a waste of time. The common cold was caused by an enormous variety of organisms. Doctors could give only one advice, “keep away from a person with a cold.” The best form of prevention was not to catch it, and the best treatment was to remain in a warm well ventilated room. Cold had baffled the best medical brains in the world.
