PICTURE THEATRE RIOT

-CALLAHANS AND MURPHY.”

(Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.)

MELBOURNE, November 25.

There were riotous scenes at a motion picture theatre in Brunswick, where a crowd of several hundred objected to the screening of a picture, “The Callahans and the Murphys,” stating it was offensive and objectionable to a large section of the community. They bombarded the theatre with stones, and attempted to storm the building. Mounted police were summoned, and after a struggle dispersed the rioters.
