THE NEXT WAR

BRITISH “GAS” DEFENCE. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, August 10. The “Westminster Gazette” says that despite the Washington Conference outlawing gas warfare, a provisional army order has been issued containing full instructions for the combating of gas attacks. It states that the British Government will endeavour to obtain from enemies in the event of war, an agreement not to employ poison gas, otherwise Britain will take such action as the circumstances demand. Aerial gas attacks must be expected, liquid poison such as mustard gas being sprayed from tanks attached to aircraft, whence it falls like rain.

The order prescribes respirators, and advised gas-proof shelters for collective protection.
